Whenever you purchase a new vehicle in India, it is mandatory to get it registered. A new vehicle registration means a new identity of your bike or car to differentiate it from the others.

The Regional Transport Office(RTO) keeps a check on all the motor vehicles of the country. 

They will inspect, conform, and allot a registration number to your vehicle which will be your permanent registration number for that particular vehicle. This number remains constant even if you transfer the ownership of that vehicle to somebody else. 

Documents required for the vehicle registration process -

While registering your new car or bike at the RTO, you will need all these documents :

 

Form 20(Vehicle registration application), Form 21(Sales certificate), PUCC(Pollution under control certificate), Vehicle insurance, Address proof, Form 34(If you have purchased the vehicle on a bank loan), Pan card, Passport size photograph, Proof of Date of birth, and Chasis and engine number print.

 

Keep your documents ready while applying for the registration. If any document is found missing then your registration process will get delayed. 

RTO vehicle registration process -

All the commercial and pirate vehicles need to get registered at the RTO. Here are the steps to do so.

 

  • Visit the local RTO office in your area with your new vehicle. 

 

  • Fill Form 20 and submit the application. The RTO superintendent will inspect your documents.

 

  • Submit the registration fee and tax at the cash counter and meanwhile, your vehicle will be inspected by the Inspector of Motor Vehicle. 

 

  • Your vehicle data will be entered into the database and the RTO superintendent will verify it. 

 

  • After this, your registration will be approved by the Assistant Regional Transport Officer(ARTO). 

 

  • Now the registration is complete and the process of the smart card will proceed. Once it’s done, you will get your card at your door through the postal service.
